Our grief by Terry Jaensch

is not a cry for war    Welcome no mind
that from it cultivates an enemy    Pre-empt

no strikes radio no transmissions release no
propaganda    Our grief will not be coerced

into naming its associates or disclosing its
locations    Time will beat no confessions

from us    Hunger will close its mouth over
its own depravity and not cannibalise sorrow's

flesh    Violence will throw down its arms and
passively put its questions to us    Our grief is not

a cry for war sounded on the heels of retreat
but an act of conscience publicly declaring itself

for peace
