nowhere to be

sitting like a cat
cleaning myself with breath

no greyness in the sky
just a luminous blue hug from above

the grass tickling the air
droplets of light on the leaves

About the Poet Matt Hetherington

Matt Hetherington is a musician and writer based in Northcote, Melbourne. He was born in Canberra in 1968, and moved to Melbourne in 1995, where he was co-convenor of 'The Gertrude St Readings' at the Builders' Arms Hotel (1999-2000). He is Contact Officer: Victoria for the Australian Haiku Society, and haiku can be found in the First and Second Australian Haiku Anthology. Additional poetry web publications include Divan, Out of Order and Muse Apprentice Guild, and other than poems in the usual journals and magazines, poetry appears in the following anthologies: Tiny Epics 2001; Said the Rat!; The Perfect Diary 1999, 2001, 2004: Melbourne Poets Live!; Culturing the Body: Exhibition Booklet; A House of Mirrors. 'Spoken Word' pieces appear have been broadcast on television (Channel 31's 'Red Lobster', on radio ('Aural Text': 3RRR, and 'Artery': JJJ), and on the compilation CD's Going Down Swinging 2000 and Poetry for Peace. He has performed his poetry consistently for the last seven years at over thirty different venues, including the Melbourne Writers' Festival 1999, Koroit Music and Poetry Festival (2001), the Melbourne Emerging Writers' Festival (2004), and the Strike Up A Conversation Day. Some poetic inspirations: Jellaladin Rumi, Emily Dickinson, Charles Reznikoff, Bob Dylan, Colin Reeves, Maurice Blanchot. Matt's Publications include; Love & Fear: A Poetry Anthology, (Editor) (La Trobe University, 2003).
