Karen Knight

Julian Sleeping

He's got peace in his belly
he's got a whole wide world
of peace
in his belly
so staple your ear
to the swell of his skin
the sound will turn
your swords into feathers
and soft pedal your
nagging dreams

there'll be doves
in the morning
doves in the evening
doves after suppertime

Published in Republican Dreaming (Bumble-bee Books, 1999).
