I How could you love me I Savannah I Of Days Long Gone I Bugs I People Drown I

How could you love me

How do you love me, with so much ease,
As though there is nothing else
You know.

How do you cause me to love you
With an ache
That does not pass with time.

How could you be so beautiful
That my heart turns over with joy and
Sweet pain.

How could you love me so much,
As though there is nothing else
You know.

Savannah

The Sun rises from the
Ground like a
Ball of flame, flooding
The plains with light.
Cries of birds
Calling to their mates
As they
Fly to the plains
To
Look for food.
The
Flame trees on
The horizon
Line the way
To the
Heavens of the Savannah land.
My Being is
Alive
With the smells
Of the
Earth, the
Beat of the Masaai
Drums
That beat
In my heart.
Ever my homeland, even though
It is not.
I will love you
For ever.

Of Days Long Gone

Of days when
Enchanted forests in the sky
Had emerald tigers
Within.
Where ivory unicorns
And fish with
Legs
Pranced
Under a purple sun.

Of days when
Myriads of
Elves and pixies
Chased one
Another
Through the
Dusk.
When goblins
Roamed the world
At will
And
Magic
Ruled the world.

Of days when
Life was fraught
With peril
Yet
Living
Was a
Joy.
When the world was
Young
And in league
With the
Gods
And nectar
Fell
From the
Sky.

Of days when
Birds were
Men and
Men were
Birds
And
Animals ruled the
World.
When trees could
Fly
And mountains
Talk ...
Of days when
Dreams
Came
True.

Bugs

Bugs
In the soil
In the air
In my program.
Nasty little
Creatures
Creating havoc
With my compilation.
Kill them
One by one.
No errors here.
Now let's see,
Do we have a
Bug-free screen.
No, not yet.
OK, let's try again
One more time
And again
Let's find the way
The route
To the most
Efficient means
To kill
All the bugs
Again.

People Drown

Morning flower
A-bloom in my garden
Sunshine
In my song.
Microbes
In the soil
In the sand
In the ocean
In the sky.
Crickets
In the grass.
People
In houses
In the street
In cars
Everywhere.
People smile
Laugh
Frown
Quarrel
Make-up
Cry
Drown
The waves rise up
And flood the sand
With anger
Despair
Loneliness.
People drown
Some smile
Some cry
Some laugh.
Cry no more
My Sweet
I will wipe your pain
For good.
Drown
If you must
In my love.

About the Poet Malobi Sinha

I was born in India, but grew up in Kenya from the age of 3 years. It was a time of freedom, filled with trips to Mombasa, a town by the sea. We lived in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, for 10 years. In 1983 there was an attempted coup, and my Dad said it was again time to move. He was an Electrical Engineer, and got job offers from a few countries. We came to Australia in 1983, when I was 13. Now Australia is home. I have been here 19 years. I completed my Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering degree from Monash University in 1995. I worked as a Systems Engineer for about 7 years. Currently I am taking a break, doing voluntary work for the Red Cross. I enjoy reading and writing, fiction, non-fiction, poetry. One of my other hobbies is Mathematics.
